Mobile Dishwashing
Mobile dishwashing keeps reusable tableware moving through festivals, private functions and community events. A dishwasher trailer provides a dedicated washing area where permanent kitchen facilities are limited, helping caterers return clean plates, glasses and cutlery to service.
Choose equipment for peak demand
Plan around the busiest serving period, the menu and the types of items being washed. Guest numbers alone do not show how quickly used tableware will arrive.
Match machine capacity with enough space and staff for scraping, loading, drying and redistribution. Check that racks suit your crockery, glassware and reusable cups, and confirm that each item is suitable for commercial machine washing. Allow spare tableware for the time between collection and return.
When comparing hire arrangements, establish who will operate the equipment and whether racks, cleaning chemicals and tableware are included.
Organise a clear washing workflow
Set up a one-way route from dirty returns to clean storage:
- Collect and sort: Separate plates, glasses and cutlery, removing damaged items.
- Scrape and prepare: Put food waste in designated bins and pre-rinse where the equipment instructions require it.
- Load and wash: Use suitable racks, avoid overcrowding and run the specified programme.
- Dry and inspect: Allow items to air-dry, check for remaining soil and rewash anything unsuitable for service.
- Store and return: Protect clean items from splashes, dirty hands and used tableware.
Keep collection points accessible without allowing queues or stacked crates to obstruct working routes.
Maintain hygiene throughout service
Provide separate handwashing facilities and train operators before service begins. Follow the machine manufacturer’s instructions for temperatures, chemical dosing, filter cleaning and water changes.
Include work surfaces, handles, racks and storage containers in the cleaning schedule. Record operating checks and corrective action within the event’s food safety procedures. The Food Standards Agency’s Safe Catering guide explains cleaning, disinfection and dishwasher maintenance.
Water quality and treatment
Use a drinking-quality water supply; the Food Safety Authority of Ireland explains water quality in food businesses.
Check local water hardness with the equipment supplier. Softening helps control limescale, while reverse osmosis reduces dissolved minerals that can leave marks on glassware. Winterhalter’s water treatment guidance explains these options. Select treatment to suit the supply and machine.
Prepare the event site
Before delivery, confirm:
- Firm, level ground, trailer access and sufficient working clearance.
- A drinking-water connection with the specified pressure, flow and suitable hoses.
- The correct electrical supply, connector and circuit capacity, checked by a competent installer.
- An agreed wastewater connection or collection arrangement.
- Lighting, weather protection, waste bins and protected clean storage.
Share the site layout, serving schedule and expected washing demand with the hire provider so connection requirements and operating responsibilities are clear before setup.
